Differentiation

For pupils needing extra support

Should be encouraged to express their opinions by understanding that there are no wrong answers; could have key vocabulary linked to the formal elements displayed to refer to during the discussion; could work collaboratively on a family portrait idea with another child by discussing each point from slide 2 of the Presentation: Family Portrait and create a joint plan.

Learners working at a stretch

Should be encouraged to expand on their answers by justifying their responses and making links to the formal elements; should give detailed explanations for why they chose the elements of their family portraits; could include symbolic elements (e.g. the dog in the painting by Brakenburg) in their portrait sketches and describe their choices in their plans.
