A handy document mapping the Cambridge International curriculum end of key stage objectives to our revised Art and design scheme (September 2022 onwards), showing coverage of the Cambridge International curriculum through our units.
Will this curriculum mapping document for Art and design save me time?
Yes, in short.
The longer answer is that schools are being held more accountable by governors, Ofsted and other outside bodies to demonstrate that what they are teaching aligns with the statutory requirements for the subject. This document shows clearly how Kapow Cambridge’s revised Art and design scheme provides full coverage of the KS1 and KS2 Art and design curriculum. Our Revised Art and design scheme (September 2022 onwards) offers a holistic and sequenced teaching of the Cambridge International curriculum, meaning every unit works towards all of the end of key stage attainment targets. This document also shows which Early Learning Goals and Development matters statements our Art and design units work towards.
As well as saving you time creating individual curriculum mapping documents for your school, you can also use this document if you wish to amend our scheme or omit units, to check that you still have full coverage of the statutory National curriculum.

The Cambridge International curriculum’s aims for Art and design are: generating ideas; using visual journals; making skills; knowledge of artists; and evaluating and analysing.
Kapow Cambridge’s revised Art and design scheme covers the Cambridge International curriculum aims within four main areas that are repeated every year – drawing; painting and mixed media; sculpture and 3D; and craft and design. This makes it easier for teachers to track the progress of their students’ knowledge and skills in these areas. Teachers can be assured that their students will have the chance to master core subject knowledge by revisiting it and applying it in various contexts with increasing difficulty.
Children are introduced to various artists and makers and taught basic skills to analyse and discuss art. Pupils evaluate artworks and develop their own creative practices while covering all Cambridge International curriculum attainment targets for a comprehensive understanding of art’s formal elements. The programme prioritises creativity through experimentation and adaptable units that connect with other subjects. Visual journals play a significant role in developing skills and evaluating progress towards the final outcome.
