Learners needing support

Could use a tray to help if rolling or dripping paint or may benefit from techniques for thickening paint being modelled; should be encouraged to explain their colour and shape choices; could require visual stimulation with images and possibly objects to inspire their ideas about a time when they felt a certain way, perhaps linked to an experience had in school.

Learners working at a stretch

Should create an inventive piece of art that represents the feeling they identified in the Frank Bowling painting; could experiment with unfamiliar techniques or mediums; should be challenged to link to the formal elements (for example, the colours, shapes, textures and lines) when describing their work.
